Getting Here
The Sapphire Gemfields is located approximately 30 minutes drive west of Emerald in the Central Queensland Highlands (see map). The Capricorn Highway runs west from Rockhampton through to Longreach and beyond; you will arrive at an intersection approximately 45klm west of Emerald with signs indicating where to turn to reach your destination.
Transport Options
FLY
Qantas and Virgin fly to Emerald from Brisbane 7 days a week. Car hire available at the airport. Note - Some people choose to fly to Rockhampton and hire a car from there to explore more of the magical Capricorn region. Flights to Rockhampton can also be significantly cheaper than flights to and from Emerald.
BUSES AND TRAINS
Both modes of transport will get you to Emerald. The bus drop-off is at the train station. Network Car Rentals are on Opal Street which is approximately 800m from the train station. There are limited train services available to Anakie Siding, however, there are no facilities such as taxis or car hire on The Gemfields, so it is critical that you have travel/pick-up plans organised prior to travel.
DRIVE
We are approximately 3.5 hours west of Rockhampton. Try to avoid driving at night as kangaroos and other wildlife are very active in this area after dark.
